Courses are available in Pharmacy:
To become a Pharmacist, it is mandatory to complete successfully a valid course in Pharmacy from any Pharmacy council recognized institution. Professional courses in Pharmacy like D. Pharm, B. Pharm, M. Pharm, Pharm D are available as prescribed courses by PCI in India.

Essential Qualifications:
✔
10+2 or equivalent examinations in Science stream
✔ Pre-degree examinations
and other equivalent approved by PCI
Duration of the course
Two Years (Part I & Part II) with each academic year
spread over a period of not less than one hundred and eighty working days in
additional 500 hours practical training spread over a period of not less than 3
months.
Practical Training
After having appeared in Part-II examination of
Diploma in Pharmacy Conducted by Board/ University or other approved
examination body or any other course accepted as being equivalent by PCI, a
Candidate shall be eligible to undergo practical training in one or more of the
following institutions namely:
✔ Hospitals / Dispensaries
run by central/state governments / Municipal Corporation / Contractual
Government Health Scheme and Employees State Insurance Scheme.
✔ A Pharmacy, Chemist and
Druggist licensed under the Drug and Cosmetics Act, 1940 (23 of 1940)
✔
Drug manufacturing unit licensed under the Drug and Cosmetics Act;
1940 & rules made thereunder.

As Annexure-12 (Item No.838 of 01.103 /CC (March, 2018) Ref. No. 14-285/2015-PCI: - In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 10 and 18 of the Pharmacy Act (8 of 1948), the Pharmacy Council of India, with the approval of the Central Government, hereby makes the Diploma in Pharmacy Exit Examination Regulations. Based on the regulations of DPEE, it will be conducted as follow objectives-

B.
Pharm is under bachelor degree course. In exercise of the powers conferred by
Section 10 and 18 of the Pharmacy Act, 1948 (8 of 1948), the Pharmacy Council
of India, with the approval of the Central Government hereby makes Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) Course
Regulations, 2014. B. Pharm shall consist of a certificate, having passed
the course of study and examination as prescribed in these regulations, for the
purpose of registration as a pharmacist to practice the profession under the
Pharmacy Act, 1948.
Essential Qualifications
✔ Minimum qualification for admission to
–
A. First year B. Pharm
– A pass in any of the following examinations -
i. Candidate
shall have passed 10+2 examination conducted by the respective state/central
government authorities recognized as equivalent to 10+2 examination by the
Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with English as one of the subjects
and Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology as optional subjects individually.
“However, the students possessing 10+2 qualification from non-formal and
non-class rooms based schooling such as National Institute of Open Schooling,
open school systems of States etc. shall not be eligible for admission to B.
Pharm Course.”
ii. Any other
qualification approved by the Pharmacy Council of India as equivalent to any of
the above examinations.
- Provided
that a student should complete the age of 17 years on or before 31st December
of the year of admission to the course.
- Provided
that there shall be reservation of seats for the students belonging to the
Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other Backward Classes in accordance
with the instructions issued by the Central Government/State Government/Union
Territory Administration as the case may be from time to time.

Pharm lateral entry (to second year/third semester) –
A pass in D.
Pharm course from an institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India
under section 12 of the Pharmacy Act.
Duration
of the course
The duration of the course shall be four academic
years (annual/semester) full time with each academic year spread over a period
of not less than two hundred working days for annual pattern and hundred
working days for each semester.
Practical Training:
The student is required to undergo practical
training of 150 hours either in
(A)
Pharmacy
Practice (Hospital/Community pharmacy)
or
(B)
Pharmaceutical
and allied Industries spread over a period of not less than one month during
the course of study after second year.

B. Pharm (Practice)
B. Pharm (Practice) also known as
B. Pharm Practice (Bridge course) is a degree certificate course. In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 10 and 18 of the Pharmacy
Act, 1948 (8 of 1948), the Pharmacy Council of India, with the approval of the
Central Government hereby makes the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Practice) Regulations, 2014
The purpose of this
course is to provide an additional qualification to the Diploma registered
pharmacists.
Essential Qualifications:
i. A pass in Diploma course in
Pharmacy from an institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India under
section 12 of the Pharmacy Act, 1948.
ii. A registered pharmacist.
iii. A minimum of four years of
pharmacy practice experience in a community or hospital pharmacy –
a. A certificate from competent
authority stating that the candidate is endorsed as registered pharmacist in
the drug license of a pharmacy as proof of practice experience in case of
community pharmacist.
b. A certificate from the
Principal/Medical Superintendent/competent person of the Hospital/Health Unit
stating that the candidate is working as a pharmacist will be accepted as proof
of practice experience in case of hospital pharmacist
iv. A ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the employer
in prescribed format (Annexure -A) available in official website of PCI
.

Provided that
✔ There shall be reservation of seats for the students
belonging to the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward classes
in accordance with the instructions issued by the Central Government/State
Government/Union Territory Administration, as the case may be, from time to
time.
Duration of the course
The duration of the course shall be of two
academic years with each year spread over a period of not less than 180 working
days.
- M. Pharm
Masters of Pharmacy is post bachelor degree course. In exercise of the
powers conferred by Sections 10 and 18 of the Pharmacy Act, 1948 (8 of 1948),
the Pharmacy Council of India. with the approval of the Central Government
hereby makes Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm) Course Regulations, 2014, M. Pharm
shall consist of a certificate, of having passed the course of study and
examination as prescribed in these regulations, for the purpose of
registration/addition of qualification as a pharmacist for practicing the
profession under the Pharmacy Act, 1948
Essential Qualifications
Pharm degree
examination of an Indian University established by law in India from an
institution approved by Pharmacy Council of India and has scored not less than
55% of the maximum marks (aggregate of four years of B. Pharm).

Provided
that
✔ there shall be reservation of seats for
the students belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other
Backward Classes in accordance with the instructions issued by the Central
Government/State Government/Union Territory Administration, as the case may be,
from time to time.
✔ For SC/ST candidates the prescribed
percentage of marks will be 50% of the maximum marks (aggregate of four years
of B. Pharm).
✔ Every student, selected for admission
to postgraduate pharmacy course in any of the pharmacy institution in the
country should have obtained Registration with the State Pharmacy Council or
should obtain the same within one month from the date of his admission, failing
which the admission of the candidate shall be cancelled.
Duration of the course
a) The duration of the M.
Pharm course shall be of two academic years full time with each academic year
spread over a period of not less than two hundred working days.
b) The study of M. Pharm
course shall be of annual system which includes M. Pharm (Part-I) extending for
12 months from the commencement of the academic term and M. Pharm (Part-II) of
another 12 months duration.
c) At the end of M. Pharm
(Part-I) there shall be a university examination of M. Pharm (Part-I). At the
end of M. Pharm (Part-II) the candidate shall submit a dissertation on the
topic approved by the university.
● Pharm D
Doctor in Pharmacy (New Latin Pharmaciae Doctor) professional
degree courses, perquisite for licensing the professions of pharmacy or to
become a clinical pharmacy.
In exercise of the powers conferred by section
10 of the Pharmacy Act, 1948 (8 of 1948), the Pharmacy Council of India, with the
approval of the Central Government, hereby makes the following regulations
Pharm D Regulations 2008, Pharm D shall consist of a certificate, having passed
the course of study and examination as prescribed in these regulations, for the
purpose of registration as a pharmacist to practice the profession under the
Pharmacy Act, 1948.
Essential Qualifications:
a) Pharm. D:
Part-I
Course – A pass in any of the following examinations –
(1) 10+2 examination with Physics and Chemistry
as compulsory subjects along with one of the following subjects: Mathematics or
Biology.
(2) A pass in D. Pharm course from an
institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India under section 12 of the
Pharmacy Act.
(3) Any other qualification approved by the
Pharmacy Council of India as equivalent to any of the above examinations.

Provided that
✔ A student should complete the age of 17 years on
or before 31st December of the year of admission to the course.
✔ There shall be reservation of seats for the
students belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other Backward
Classes in accordance with the instructions issued by the Central
Government/State Government/Union Territory Administration as the case may be
from time to time.
b) Pharm.D. (Post Baccalaureate)
– A pass in B. Pharm
from an institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India under section 12
of the Pharmacy Act.

✔ There shall be
reservation of seats for the students belonging to the Scheduled Castes,
Scheduled Tribes and other Backward Classes in accordance with the instructions
issued by the Central Government/State Government/Union Territory
Administration as the case may be from time to time.
Duration of the course:
a) Pharm. D:
The duration of the course shall be
six academic years (five years of study and one year of internship or
residency) full time with each academic year spread over a period of not less
than two hundred working days.
The period of six years duration is divided into
two phases –
Phase I – consisting of First, Second, Third,
Fourth and Fifth academic year.
Phase II – consisting of internship or residency
training during sixth year involving posting in specialty units. It is a phase
of training wherein a student is exposed to actual pharmacy practice or
clinical pharmacy services and acquires skill under supervision so that he or
she may become capable of functioning independently.
b) Pharm.D.
(Post Baccalaureate):
The duration of the course shall be for three
academic years (two years of study and one-year internship or residency) full
time with each academic year spread over a period of not less than two hundred
working days.
The period of three years duration is divided
into two phases –
Phase I – consisting of First and Second
academic year.
Phase II – consisting of Internship or residency training during third year involving posting in specialty units. It is a phase of training wherein a student is exposed to actual pharmacy practice or clinical pharmacy services, and acquires skill under supervision so that he or she may become capable of functioning independently.
